About

Studio vignette, Lynne Francis-Lunn, Beverly, MA

My love for textiles began early — sewing at age four and knitting by five. In high school, my passion for woven textiles deepened when I was introduced to a four-harness floor loom. Weaving became my calling. And weaving led me to the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth where I majored in Textile Design.

I enjoyed a culturally and artistically rich career at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. My work in merchandising exposed me to a broad range of arts and artists which both expanded my knowledge and influenced my art.

Over the years, I continued to make art and to pursue my arts education. Courses at the Boston Architectural College and Massachusetts College of Art and Design informed and inspired me. I also have had the privilege to train with masters in the fiber and basketry fields at workshops at the National Basketry Organization, Snowfarm: The New England Craft Program, and North Country Studio Workshops.

I am currently focused on contemporary sculptural weaving, created with hand-painted paper, using both traditional and contemporary basketry techniques. My sculptures are concept-driven and, most often, tied to topics of personal importance.
